Mar 12, 2019 Fixed typo in gene and product names. Reverted back to the correct name provided in PMID: 19406895. Literature review. Geoff Winsor, Brinkman Lab, Simon Fraser University, Canada
May 15, 2009 New gene name: dhcB. New product name: DhcB, dehydrocarnitine CoA transferase, subunit B. New product name confidence: Class 1. New comment: Deletion of dhcB or transposon insertions into the coding sequence result in a strain unable to grow using L-carnitine as a sole carbon source. DhcB is predicted to form a complex with DhcA which functions to deacetylate 3-dehydrocarnitine generating acetyl-CoA and glycine betaine CoA. Deletion of the dhcAB operon results in complete loss of carnitine-dependent CoA utilization from cytoplasmic extracts compared to cytoplasm from wild-type cells.;Transcription of the dhcAB operon is regulated by the transcription factor DhcR. . New evidence reference (PMID): 19406895. New genomic context: dhcAB operon. Matthew J. Wargo (University of Vermont College of Medicine) and Deborah A. Hogan (Dartmouth Medical School)
