Comment | The cupE gene cluster encodes a chaperone usher pathway that is homologous to the A. baumanii csu gene cluster. Activation of the cupE genes leads to the production and assembly of CupE fimbriae on the cell surface. These fimbriae are important in early and late stages of biofilm formation. The expression of the cupE gene cluster is controlled by the two-component system PprA-PprB, and binding of PprB to the cupE1 promoter has been confirmed by EMSA. |
